Sequential
Dave Smith founded Sequential Circuits in San Francisco in 1974 and shipped the Prophet-5 in 1978.
He lost the brand, then got it back: Yamaha returned the Sequential Circuits brands to him in
January 2015, and Dave Smith Instruments rebranded as Sequential on 31 August 2018, the
Prophet-5’s fortieth anniversary. Smith died on 31 May 2022; the company continues under the
Sequential name, and davesmithinstruments.com now redirects to
sequential.com.
